Arctic forum guests to receive northern dolls and biscuits

Guests of the ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ International Arctic Forum will be introduced to the traditions and culture of Russia’s North, the Arkhangelsk regional government’s press service said. Pomorye souvenir companies and folk craftsmen are preparing special gifts: northern dolls, decorated biscuits (kozuli), and phyto-tea.

Arctic dolls made by Irina Cherepanova will be a special gift for the Forum’s honoured guests. Made using an ancient technology of porcelain, cotton wool, and starch, the thematic dolls are highly popular both in Russia and abroad. For the forum, the craftswoman will prepare a special collection of the northern beauties, polar dolls, skiers, hunters, and fishermen, as well as an entire mock-up of a meteorological station with employees. A total of 200 dolls will be made.

The Arkhangelsk Gingerbread Workshop will bake decorated folk biscuits for the Forum called kozuli both with traditional northern designs as well as with an Arctic theme. The workshop plans to surprise guests with a composition that features Arctic inhabitants on ice made from lean sugar as well as a gingerbread fragment of an old Arkhangelsk street with a large white stone bell tower and northern-style homes.

The White Sea Patterns company will present guests with a wide range of souvenir products: wooden painted souvenirs, cases, boxes, buckets, birch bark baskets, and Kargopol clay toys. Other gifts of traditional wool clothing range from sweaters to mittens and socks, linen tablecloths, napkins, and towels. Another vivid ornament will be the symbol of the Arkhangelsk Region – the woodchip-made bird of happiness.

Forum participants will also have vitamin drinks to choose from according to their tastes: extracts, phyto-tea, fruit starch drinks from local and Altai medicinal herb materials.

The innovative technologies of northern manufacturers have already been given an assessment at the national level: the unique beverages have been included in the diets of Russian servicemen and astronauts.

Take a part of Russia’s North with you.

Souvenirs and gastronomic specialties will be presented to guests of the Arctic forum during a trade fair at Gostiny Dvor on March 29. Seven regional enterprises will take part in the fair.
“Guests will not only have the chance to witness the capabilities of our enterprises first-hand, but to take a part of Russia’s North with them. The souvenirs will remind them about hospitable and welcoming Arkhangelsk”, the regional government’s press service said.
