Chilingarov: Arctic development impossible without scientific research

Scientific research plays a key role in the development of the Arctic, Special Presidential Representative for International Cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic Artur Chilingarov said at the Arctic Forum in Arkhangelsk.

“Studying and developing the Arctic is impossible without science and without scientific research,” he said.

During the thematic session ‘The Arctic: Territory of Scientific Cooperation’, the prominent polar explorer also noted the important that the Arctic Forum is being held at the state level, TASS News Agency reports. Among other important events of recent years, Mr. Chilingarov cited the International Polar Year, which was held at Russia’s initiative in 2008. “The year brought together thousands of scientists from 45 countries,” he said.
