International Arctic Forum 2019 to Address Preserving Culture of the North and Developing Intercultural Communications

The ROSIZO Museum and Exhibition Centre has put forward an initiative to hold the session ‘The North as a Cultural Brand’ at the International Arctic Forum. The moderator will be Alisa Prudnikova, Director for Regional Development at the National Centre for Contemporary Art within ROSIZO and Commissioner of the Ural Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art. Speakers will include: ROSIZO Director Sophia Gracheva, Art Projects Organizer, Curator, and Head of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Moscow Simon Mraz, Social and Cultural Project Curator Natalya Fedyanina.

“Providing the public with professional and personal opportunities in culture is an important factor in preserving the population of young people in the northern regions. This challenge involves improving the quality of life through well-structured communication with local communities, preserving the local cultural language, and integrating it into an international context”, Gracheva said.

Norilsk Museum Director Natalya Fedyanina emphasized that “creating high-quality cultural events involving local audiences, strengthening lateral ties in the professional environment from museum to design, and providing opportunities for lifelong education and human development even in remote Arctic cities could be of key importance in increasing the attractiveness of Russia’s northern territories”.

The discussion participants will consider factors influencing the development of creative activities, discuss what resources local institutions need and what kind of collaboration between museums could help to improve the quality of cultural services, whether communication between museums can be introduced in the work of museum organizations in the North, and the issues encountered by creative specialists of the Arctic regions.
