St. Petersburg historians are to spend four years restoring an aircraft hangar at Tikhaya Bay

St. Petersburg historians are to spend four years restoring an aircraft hangar at Tikhaya Bay on the Franz-Josef Land archipelago to convert it into a Museum of the History of Conquering the Arctic. It will be the first restoration project of its kind to be undertaken in the Arctic.

The hangar will also host temporary exhibitions, except that the weather conditions will not accommodate exposition of rare or valuable exhibits. The museum will be a convenient place to popularize the history of Soviet Arctic aviation and Franz-Josef Land.
