How to get to Arkhangelsk

Arkhangelsk is one of the largest seaports in northwestern Russia and a land, air, sea, and river transport hub. The city is situated on both banks of the Northern Dvina River and on delta islands not far from where the river joins the White Sea.

The city is home to an international airport, a railway station, a seaport, and numerous highways.


By air

Arkhangelsk International Airport (Talagi; ARH) receives regular flights from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Naryan-Mar, as well as international charter flights. The airport is located 6 kilometres northeast of the city. It takes an average of 20–30 minutes to get from the airport to the Forum venue.

The airport building houses a business lounge, VIP lounge, shops, a café, and the Northern Aviation Museum.

Trains from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Adler, Novorossiysk, Murmansk, Gomel, Minsk, and other cities arrive at Arkhangelsk railway station.

Trains from Moscow to Arkhangelsk depart daily from Yaroslavsky Rail Terminal. Travel time is 19–22.5 hours.

Trains from St. Petersburg to Arkhangelsk depart several times per week from Ladozhsky Rail Terminal. Travel time is 22.5 hours.

By car

Arkhangelsk is located 1,240 kilometres from Moscow and 1,152 kilometres from St. Petersburg. Travel time is an average of 15–18 hours (depending on traffic and weather conditions).

The route from Moscow to Arkhangelsk runs via the M-8 ‘Kholmogory’ federal highway. The route from St. Petersburg to Arkhangelsk runs via regional highways through Lodeinoye Pole, Pudozh, and Brin-Navolok, and also merges with the M-8 highway.

Travel from Severodvinsk and Novodvinsk

Some hotels recommended for Forum participants are located in Severodvnisk and Novodvinsk. Driving is the most convenient way of travelling between the cities. The journey time from Arkhangelsk to Novodvinsk is 30–40 minutes (37 kilometres across the Krasnoflotsky Bridge and 28 kilometres across the Severodvinsky Bridge); the journey time to Severodvinsk is 40–50 minutes (43 kilometres across the Severodvinsky Bridge). The majority of the route is via the M-8 ‘Kholmogory’ highway.

During the Forum, regular free shuttles will run between the recommended hotels and the Forum venue. The exact schedule for shuttles will be published closer to the start of the Forum.
