In Moscow, a meeting took place between Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, and Carsten Søndergaard, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Russian Federation. During the meeting, they discussed the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries and a common geopolitical strategy, as well as plans for developing joint projects and the format for the official Danish delegation’s participation in the business programme of the ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ 5th International Arctic Forum that will take place on 9–10 April at the ExpoForum Exhibition and Convention Centre in St. Petersburg.

“ The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Anders Samuelsen will take part in the International Arctic Forum 2019. This is going to be his second visit, which indicates the high efficiency of interaction as part of the Forum’s business programme and has a positive impact on development of trade and economic relations between the two countries,” commented Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark in Moscow Carsten Søndergaard. “The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark would like to meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, on the sidelines of the Forum in St. Petersburg, since a similar meeting in 2017 yielded important results.”

In 2017, an official delegation of Denmark led by Anders Samuelsen, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and representatives of the Nordic Council took part in the Forum. At the moment, confirmation of participation in the International Arctic Forum 2019 has been received from representatives of Denmark, including, in addition to officials, representatives of international businesses and heads of economic projects on the Faroe Islands.

“We will be happy to assist in shaping the business programme of the Danish delegation to ensure the delegation’s most effective participation possible in the International Arctic Forum 2019,” Anton Kobyakov emphasized during the meeting. “An important component of bilateral relations is Denmark’s cooperation with Russia’s regions. The Russian government maintains cooperation with the Kaliningrad and Pskov Regions, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, and the Krasnodar Region. We will be happy to continue our constructive dialogue as part of the Forum’s business programme in St. Petersburg.”

In 2017, an official Danish delegation led by Anders Samuelsen, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, took part in the International Arctic Forum. A meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Denmark, Sergey Lavrov and Anders Samuelsen, was held on the sidelines of the Forum.

Moreover, at the end of 2018, a delegation from the Faroe Islands visited the Arkhangelsk Region for the first time on a business mission and discussed the development of the forestry and fishing industries. The exchange of trade between Russia and the Danish autonomous areas – the Faroe Islands and Greenland, which are part of the Kingdom of Denmark – is actively developing, and a representative office of the Faroe Islands in the Russian Federation has been opened at the Embassy of Denmark in Moscow.
