Museum of North Exploration to be Opened in the Centre of Krasnoyarsk

According to Vyacheslav Filippov, a representative of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) regional division, the Museum will be located on Molokov Island, TASS Agency reports.

“This is going to be a park-museum featuring an exhibition of equipment and an interactive display. We are currently developing the concept for it”, V. Filippov said.

He added that the construction period would depend on the concept. The museum might be opened just before the 2019 University Games, so that the guests could visit it.

The American Douglas C-47 aircraft that made an emergency landing on Taimyr in 1947 will be the museum’s key exhibit. Last year, RGS evacuated it from the Arctic Region. Its restoration is due to begin in Krasnoyarsk in the summer.
