7th Teriberka Arctic Festival Presents Business and Cultural Programmes

The organizers of the 7th Teriberka Arctic Festival, which is scheduled for 16–17 July 2022 as part of the plan for Russia’s Chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021–2023, unveiled the event’s business and cultural programmes. Chairmanship events are being operated by the Roscongress Foundation.

“By holding major forums and festivals in the Arctic, we create an opportunity for a wide range of experts to discuss topics relevant to the Arctic agenda together with the residents of the North themselves. The events are important for developing event-related tourism services and promoting key tourist attractions in our Arctic territories,” Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexey Chekunkov said.

The festival business programme will include four sessions focusing on different areas of tourism along with Arctic cuisine. Participants of ‘Ecotourism – A Foundation for Sustainable Regional Development’ will discuss best ecotourism practices in Russia’s regions, while speakers in the ‘Tourism for the Locals’ session will consider how to engage local inhabitants in the process of creating tourism products. What’s more, experts will also work on developing common standards for organizing tourism events at the ‘Events as a Reason to Travel’ session and present best practices from the ‘Arctic Cuisine’ project in Murmansk Oblast.

As part of the festival, the Murmansk Oblast tourism committee will hold the ‘MURMANSK.TRAVEL Market’ tourism exhibition, which will present more than 15 industry representatives with an opportunity to tell visitors about weekend travel destinations, and Russian Post will organize a drop-off point for free postcards.

Guests will also have a chance to sample northern cuisine during the ‘Taste of the Arctic’ Gastronomic Festival. Approximately 27 representatives of the Murmansk Oblast restaurant industry will work together to develop a food court menu. Restaurateurs will put their very best in Arctic One-Hand-Food on display. The ‘Gastronomic Map of Russia’ Federal Project will be helping organize the event.

“The Teriberka Arctic Festival is a musical and cultural event that takes place in unity with the unique environment of the North. This year, the geography of the festival will be significantly expanded: the primary location on the sandy shore of old Teriberka will be joined by the nature park, the far beach, and the ‘Graveyard of Ships’,” Murmansk Oblast Governor Andrey Chibis said.

13 musicians and bands will be taking to the main stage. The Hatters, Cheese People, Velvet, Drummatix, and singer Linda are set to headline the programme. The organizers have also invited the bands Bangkok Postal Service, Zoch, Smola, FILIPP.CHIC, Harvest, Yuhim, and Suspect Under Pressure (SUP) to perform. The FORMAT Electronic Music Festival will likewise be taking place on 16 July as part of Teriberka.

Guests can also look forward to excursions, workshops, entertainment, and cultural block events.  In particular, there will be poetry readings, theatre performances, and one-man shows at the Graveyard of Ships vantage point. Festival participants will also get to learn more about the Liza Alert search-and-rescue team and take in lectures on safety for children and basic first aid for adults, play mind sports, visit the Arctic Sunbathing beach recreation area, and watch UAV-racing demonstrations on the drone course among other things. A film festival featuring films about Russia’s northern territories has also been planned as part of the festival.

On the site of the Nature Park, guests will have a chance to go horseback riding or take a walking tour of the park over the two days of the festival. On 16 July, the ‘Arctic Challenge’ Trail Run will take place at the Sports venue, with the ‘Run, Collect’ environmental event taking place on 17 July.

Organizers are inviting visitors to have fun while also choosing to embrace new trends in conscientious living and environmental awareness. Cars will be prohibited from entering the site, and guests will be encouraged to use thermoses and reusable cups instead of plastic cups at the food outlets.

Guests will be able to take public transport to Teriberka: paid buses will be running from Murmansk on 16 and 17 July, and free shuttle buses for participants will run between festival locations at Teriberka, the Graveyard of Ships, and Lodeynoye (7, Shkolnaya).

This will be the seventh installment of the Teriberka Arctic Festival. In 2021, more than 5,000 participants from 27 Russian regions were in attendance. The event was held as part of the cultural programme of Russia’s Chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021–2023. Last year, the festival won the Russian Geographical Society Award in the Best Tourist Project category, and also won the ‘Events in Russia’ National Award in the ‘Culture. Concerts and Music Festivals’ category.

The event is being organized by the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic and the Murmansk Oblast Tourism Committee. The festival is being operated by the Roscongress Foundation and Murmancongress.
