Rogozin: Arctic must become environmentally sustainable
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the International Arctic Forum, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin declared that the main objective was to make the Arctic an environmentally sustainable region.
“In developing the Arctic, Russia has accumulated unique experience. It is not an exaggeration to say that our country was at the forefront of this sector during the imperial and Soviet periods… We see the principle aim of our work as being the establishment of a relationship between people and the Arctic”, said Rogozin, adding that people’s desire to go to the Arctic and work there was far more important than any financial or economic indicators.
“What was once the edge of the world is now becoming known as an attractive region in which to live and work”, declared the Deputy Prime Minister.
