‘Think Arctic – Think Global’ Session in Moscow To Address International Organizations’ Cooperation in the Arctic

Participants in the session ‘Multilateral Cooperation in the Arctic through the Lens of International Arctic Organizations’ of the ‘Think Arctic – Think Global’ project, which will be held on 30 November in Moscow, will discuss the current state of and prospects for Arctic cooperation. The project is being implemented as part of the plan of events of Russia’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021–2023, which are being managed by the Roscongress Foundation.

The resources provided by international organizations have traditionally created great opportunities for the development of cooperation in the Arctic. The most significant examples of such cooperation are the Arctic Council, the Arctic Economic Council, and the Council of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region. Experts, scientists, as well as representatives of government and business from Russia, India, the UK, and the US will consider the role of international Arctic organizations in the new conditions in the foreseeable future and also discuss the possibility of building new effective mechanisms to manage the Arctic in the current geopolitical realities.

During the session, the participants will come up with several scenarios on ways to develop international cooperation in the Arctic zone in the current conditions. In addition, the conference’s findings will become part of an analytical report on international cooperation concerning sustainable development between Russia as well as the Arctic and non-Arctic states that is prepared as part of the ‘Think Arctic – Think Global’ project.

The ‘Think Arctic – Think Global’ project is being implemented jointly by the Roscongress Foundation and the HSE Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies. Its goal is to promote the Russian agenda in matters concerning sustainable development, strengthen a constructive international dialogue, and offer new points of contact for Russia’s collaboration in high latitudes with all interested countries and organizations.
