Yakutsk Conference to Address Development of Arctic Urban Environment

The 'Arctic: Territory of Development' Conference on Ensuring a Comfortable Urban Environment will take place in Yakutsk on 23–25 May as part of main events being organized by the Roscongress Foundation for Russia’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021–2023.

One of the priorities of Russia’s chairmanship is to develop human capital in the Arctic. Improving the wellbeing and quality of life of the population is the primary goal of Russia’s state policy in the Arctic zone. A comfortable urban environment is a key factor that affects the quality of life and investment appeal in the region.

The Conference will be attended by representatives of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs off the Russian Federation, the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, major companies, the heads of regions in Russia’s Arctic zone, and leading experts.

The participants will discuss the following themes:

-      Strategic planning and the service economy for the sustainable development of the Arctic

-      The role of a high-quality and rich urban environment in enhancing the resilience of Arctic cities

-      A creative economy as a key element for the Arctic’s sustainable development

-      New tools and the role of socio-cultural projects in developing the urban environment

-      Master plans for cities, the Arctic hectare, the role of Arctic universities and young people in the development of territories, the best practices of other regions to integrate their experience, the Arctic standard for living improvements, and more
