Yamalo-Nenets District to invest RUB 8.2 bln in Northern Latitudinal Railway

Starting in 2020, the region’s obligations will include building a bridge over the Ob River near Salekhard, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District Governor Dmitry Kobylkin  is quoted as saying by TASS news agency.

Kobylkin also said that the region already commissioned one of the sections of the Northern Latitudinal Railway in 2015 – a bridge over Nadym River (with a cost of RUB 14 billion). Prior to this, the city of Nadym had been connected to the ‘mainland’ by a pontoon ferry that fully depended on the time of the year and weather conditions for crossing.

The governor confirmed that there is demand for the Northern Latitudinal Railway both among Russia’s regions as well as the country’s industrial companies. This railway has initial confirmed transport volume of more than 21 million tonnes per year, he said.

“It’s essential that the railway be built exclusively from Russian materials. More than 135,000 tonnes of metal structures, sand, gravel, sleepers, rails, and reinforced concrete structures for railway lines will be used just to build the bridge over the Ob River”, Kobylkin said.
