Chinese vice premier to head his country’s delegation at Arctic forum

Chinese State Council Vice-Premier Wang Yang will head the Chinese delegation at the Arctic forum in Arkhangelsk on March 29–30, the TASS news agency reports citing the press service of the Arkhangelsk Region administration.

“The Chinese delegation will be led by Chinese State Council Vice-Premier Wang Yang, who visited the Russian Federation in late December 2016. Mr. Wang Yang’s new visit demonstrates the Chinese government’s high level of interest in developing cooperation between our countries, including between China and the Arkhangelsk Region”, the press service quoted Chinese Consul General in St. Petersburg Guo Min as saying at a meeting with Arkhangelsk Region Governor Igor Orlov.

The Consul General said the first visit to Arkhangelsk by a joint delegation consisting of embassy and consulate general representatives had two goals: to learn about the potential of the Arkhangelsk Region and to prepare for the Chinese delegation’s participation in the ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ forum.

Orlov noted that the frequency and depth of contacts between the Arkhangelsk Region and China is evidence of the sides’ mutual interest in developing cooperation in a wide range of areas, particularly cooperation in the construction of the Belkomur railway line.
