St. Petersburg plans to open new Arctic museum

The city plans to open a museum devoted to the technical and technological development of the Arctic. A competition among young designers to create the museum design will be announced on May 24, TASS news agency reports citing the press service of the St. Petersburg Committee for Youth Affairs and Relations with Public Organizations.

“The competition, which will take place in the format of a business game, is designed to bring together the best ideas among young people about what the modern Arctic museum should look like”, the press service said.

St. Petersburg already has a Museum of the Arctic and Antarctica.

The museum exhibit will consist of the thematic sections: ‘Nature of the Arctic’, ‘History of the Research and Development of the Northern Sea Route’, and ‘Antarctica’. The museum collection includes 62,000 stored items.
