Evenk traditional cookbook becomes the winner of Gourmand Awards 2020

The results of the 25th international Gourmand Awards for best cookbooks have been announced. Among the winners is a resident of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Nadezhda Gerasimova. Jury members rewarded her book ‘Traditional cuisine of the Evenki people of Southern Yakutia’,

Nadezhda Gerasimova was born in a small town of Iyengra to a family of reindeer herders. In her book, she told the stories by Iyengra old inhabitants and recipes of Evenk dishes by countrymen. Nadezhda studied recipes and techniques of traditional cooking during her trips to reindeer herders’ camps. The book was presented in 2017 in the town of Neryungri. In April 2020, this unique collection of Evenk traditional dishes won the first place at the Gourmand Awards in C22 Arctic category. The second and the third places were taken by authors from Sweden and Norway.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards annually brings together the best printed and digital media on food and wine, as well as TV cooking shows. In their official statement, the organizers note that for the first time since the founding of the awards in 1995, the list of the Best in the World winners is released before the awards ceremony. Due to the COVID-2019 pandemic, many events have been cancelled, and they decided that releasing the list now might make hundreds happier in these very difficult times.
